RADIO SILENCE was Miller's alternative relief program away from the avant-punk band he was slaving over at the time, NONFICTION.  RADIO SILENCE managed to release a half studio half "live" cassette over the course of it's short life, playing out at Ann Arbor's Joe's Star Lounge several times before folding.  Twin brother Ben Miller played alto saxophone in this band, as he too had his own alternative group, G.K.W. (God Knows Who).  Both RADIO SILENCE and G.K.W. were off shoots from a precursor outfit of theirs just one year prior called LOW INCOME ZONE, their first relief program effort. RADIO SILENCE'S influences might include King Krimson and yes, TV jingles.
NOTE: Laurence also contributed "spoken word" to Ben's band G.K.W.

Pictured here is the front cover to their self titled, cassette release (c) 1983.  The best tunes were Miller's BUT, WHAT IS CRAZY? and ROTATING REVOLVING, as well as his arrangements of MISSION IMPOSSIBLE and PINK PANTHER. (The late) Don Rimmer, their bassist, designed the band's logo.  Laurence used a TV cabinet (pictured below) as an external speaker cabinet when performing "live".  Fact is, it caught on fire at Ann Arbor's Rick's American Cafe, in the middle of a guitar solo.  One of the guitarists from the next band, THE URBATIONS, freaked, ran up on stage to put it out, knocking over Miller's backup guitar, putting a huge gouge in it.  Safety first...

MISSION IMPOSSIBLE ~ A low fi dupe.

BUT, WHAT IS CRAZY? ~ Another low fi dupe.  Clearly reminiscent of KING KRIMSON's "RED".
